It is the first1 lens in the world for APS-C mirrorless cameras with a zoom ratio of 16.6x and 18-300mm focal length range (the full-frame equivalent of 27-450mm). Zooming from wide-angle to ultra-telephoto, it covers a broad array of shooting situations, including landscape, sports, wildlife, snapshots, and portraits. The lens's compact design makes it easy to carry every day, and it is ideal for travel and family activities. With a 0.15m (5.9 in) MOD (Minimum Object Distance) at the wide end and a maximum magnification ratio of 1:2, it lets you photograph subjects with a unique perspective. In addition, autofocus is very fast and accurate thanks to its precise, high speed VXD (Voice-coil eXtreme-torque Drive) linear motor focus mechanism. And for steady shots, it is equipped with TAMRON's proprietary VC (Vibration Compensation) system. The most exciting feature of this lens is its 16.6x zoom ratio. It is the first APS-C mirrorless camera lens in the world to achieve this extreme. Its 18-300mm range provides the full-frame equivalent of 27-450mm. From ultra-telephoto photography taking advantage of lens compression, to wide-angle photography that captures vast landscapes, this lens supports many different types of photographic expression. The lens's very compact design weighs approximately 620g (21.9 oz). Plus, like most of TAMRON's other lenses for mirrorless cameras, the filter size is unified at 67mm. The 18-300mm F3.5-6.3 VC VXD is a zoom lens with speed, precision and responsiveness that ranks at the top of all-in-one zoom lens category, due in part to TAMRON’s VXD linear motor focus mechanism. Even at the ultra-telephoto focal length of 300mm (the full-frame equivalent of 450mm), it glides into focus comfortably from the minimum distance to infinity. Its focus tracking is so effective that it allows you to capture decisive moments when photographing insects, animals, vehicles or other moving subjects. Since it directly drives a group of lens elements to focus without using gears, the lens is exceptionally quiet. The linear motor suppresses drive noise making this lens ideal for shooting both still photos and video in environments that demand silence.
Maximum magnification ratio is 1:2, absolutely amazing for an all-in-one zoom lens
At the 18mm wide end, the lens attains an MOD of 0.15m (5.9 in) and a maximum magnification ratio of 1:2. With an amazing working distance of 5mm (0.2 in)2, you can get as close as you want to your subject while capturing the background. This opens the doors for a style of expression that is exclusive to wide macro photography.
2 When shooting with an MOD of 0.15m (5.9 in) at the wide end, the distance between the subject and the front tip of the lens is approximately 5mm (0.2 in). Use precaution so that the front element does not touch the subject when shooting at MOD.

The 18-300mm F3.5-6.3 VC VXD is a high-resolution all-in-one zoom lens created through TAMRON's persistent pursuit of outstanding image quality. The optical construction includes several special lens elements, specifically four LD (Low Dispersion) and three hybrid aspherical lens elements. These elements help to produce clear, sharp images from the center to the corners. Chromatic aberration and other optical aberrations are well corrected. In addition, the BBAR-G2 (Broad-Band Anti-Reflection Generation 2) Coating suppresses ghosting and flare, which commonly occur in backlit scenes. Throughout the entire zoom range, the 18-300mm F3.5-6.3 VC VXD provides both high image quality and soft creamy bokeh.

This lens incorporates TAMRON's proprietary VC mechanism to minimize the effect of camera-shake, which is likely to occur in the telephoto range. It displays its ability to perform when shooting handheld under low-light conditions such as indoor or when shooting at night. It effectively reduces the degradation of picture quality. Using AI technologies, the lens will choose the compensation characteristic for videography at focal lengths of 70mm or less.

MTF (Modulation Transfer Function) curves describe to what extent the tested lens can faithfully reproduce contrast of the subject in images it captures.
The closer the 10 lp/mm (line pairs per millimeter) curve (the thick line for low frequency) in an MTF chart to "1" of the vertical axis (the higher up), the higher the contrast reproduction performance of the tested lens will be. The closer the 30 lp/mm curve (the thin line for high frequency) to "1" (the higher up), the higher the resolving power and thus the subjective sharpness of the lens will be.
Lens performance differs depending upon directions. Solid lines show performance in the sagittal (radial) direction while dotted lines indicate performance in the meridional (circumferential) direction. When sharp lenses capable of delivering uniform optical performance over the entire image field are tested, MTF charts show curves plotted in good balance.
Performance characteristics of photographic lenses cannot be expressed with only MTF charts. There are other factors that are expressed in different methods, such as taste of softness and degrees of compensation of various aberrations. But you can use MTF charts as a scale to measure lens performance.
